REDUCING WASTE IS EVERYBODY’S RESPONSIBILITY

The world is our home, and we are all called upon to keep it clean. At the current rates of production and consumption we are quickly transforming the earth into an open landfill.

The oceans are filled with giant floating islands of plastic (as highlighted by the latest international campaign by UNESCO, against single use plastic), our cities are invaded by rubbish, and the mountains of scrap materials in waste collection sites are getting higher and higher.

If we want to give our children a world which is better than when we found it, we all need to make a commitment to participate in the change and work harder to reduce waste and correctly manage rubbish.

We can do this privately, ensuring that our choices and lifestyle follow the three R’s of waste management: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

In the same way, businesses can actively work harder, hopefully making more and more investments in sustainable technology, but they would already be doing a lot if they took responsibility for reducing waste in manufacturing, reducing the use of paper, making use of renewable energy sources…designing and marketing products with a long-life cycle, instead of products which are based on consumerism, with almost planned obsolescence.

Saving on construction materials or settling for a design process which is incapable of preventing weakness and problems, leads to products with a high probability of having a short life span being put on the market. They tend to break, are difficult to repair, and are quickly disposed of. Waste. In the best hypothesis recoverable and recyclable, but all too often found piled up in waste collection sites or made to disappear on the ocean floor.

Eureka prefers to follow an ethical choice: the meticulous attention to every detail and the use of quality, durable materials, are conscious choices, not only esthetic. Our floor sweepers and scrubbers are in fact designed and built with components and technology that ensure optimum performance. Over time. With low requirements when it comes to maintenance and component substructures.

Machines which perform well won’t ever be abandoned to become scrap ahead of time. Machines designed to be efficient won’t experience irregular energy consumption or have parts which wear quickly and therefore require substitution.

By choosing to produce quality machines, Eureka in turn offers its clients the possibility to tackle the cost of cleaning and to make a small contribution to saving the planet.

Eureka’s commitment to the environment is furthermore multiplied in its choice to adopt Lean Production methodologies, which are strongly focused on the reduction of waste during manufacturing. Reducing the quantity of left-over materials allows a company to maintain lower production costs and avoids the generation of more waste.

Finally, one of Eureka’s significant achievements towards its goal of greater environmental protection is the ECOsystem® patent, which reduces consumption of water and detergent by over 60% when scrubbing floors, in respect to traditional machines. An important result which has led to the company being inserted in the Water Technology List (WTL), an initiative of the UK government which recognizes products which favor the sustainable use of water.

It’s therefore not just Eureka who’s on the front line in the fight against waste reduction, but thanks to ECOsystem® technology Eureka’s clients can give their own contribution to protecting natural resources, starting with water. All this with significant savings in the overall costs of cleaning operations.
