Floors in metalworking and engineering companies: why you need to keep them clean.

In the metalworking and engineering sector, cleaning is a must for reasons of safety, order and image.

In typical metalworking activities – cutting, bending, welding and the like – swarf and metallic dust are inevitably produced as part of the process.

Similarly, spillages of mineral oil, grease and glycol can occur, especially on assembly lines and machinery testing areas. Very often, such environments also involve a high traffic of people and vehicles, for example when materials are received from suppliers, production lines replenished from the warehouse, or finished products shipped out. All this traffic, with numerous movements between indoor and outdoor areas, inevitably produces additional dirt in the form of dust, dead leaves, debris, and black marks left on the ground by manoeuvring forklifts...

Engineering companies therefore need to organise regular general cleaning routines, using floor sweepers and scrubber-dryers that are well suited to the environment, and also need to prepare for rapid and effective cleaning interventions to deal with any emergencies that occur.

An oil spillage on the floor not only becomes more difficult to remove if left to soak in, but it also represents a real risk for staff and visitors, who could slip on the oil.

What machines should you use to clean floors in the engineering industry?

The mechanical engineering sector has always been one of Eureka’s main markets, and we pay a great deal of attention to satisfying its needs. Our extensive experience in this area and continuous contact with customers allow our R&D department to deliver solutions that are increasingly efficient, durable and easy to use and manage.

Today, we can therefore say that our entire range of sweepers and scrubber-dryers is well suited to use in all areas of the metalworking industry, being perfectly able to ensure not just thorough cleaning but immediately walkable floors.

Depending on their principal application, some machines meet specific needs better than others. Here are some examples:

  • Production lines, prototype area

In these environments it is easy to find not just large open spaces, but narrow passages too. Stubborn dirt is also frequently encountered in these contexts. A high-performance walk-behind scrubber-dryer, or a compact ride-on model can solve routine cleaning needs and provide excellent support in emergencies. Around machines that produce large amounts of swarf, chippings and dust, it is more practical to keep a compact sweeper nearby to collect the dirt quickly, before it can spread over larger areas. In such cases, a manual sweeper is often the most suitable choice.

  • Large organised warehouses

Ride-on scrubber-dryers with a wide cleaning path allow large areas to be cleaned rapidly and with a high level of operator comfort. The machines in Eureka’s ECO line also minimise water and detergent consumption thanks to ECOsystem and other technologies, and this translates into significant savings in time and money.

  • Offices, meeting rooms, corridors and company canteens

In non-production areas, floor cleaning can easily be achieved using compact scrubber-dryers that are able to manoeuvre easily between desks, tables and chairs and can be moved easily from one office to another through narrow doors and in small lifts.

  • Outdoor yards, car parks, and bulk material stacking areas.

Outdoor spaces and material reception areas require ride-on sweepers with particularly large debris hoppers and dust control systems.
